Advisory Services for Soil Fertility Management in Africa Insights from Satellite Data and Digital Tools

On 11th June 2024, a workshop was held in The Hague to discuss the outcomes of the study “Advisory Services for Soil Fertility Management in Africa based on Satellite Data and Digital Tools”, led by soil expert Eric Smaling.

The study, commissioned under the Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) programme, highlights innovative digital solutions to address soil fertility challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa. It explores how satellite data, digital mapping, and advisory tools can improve agricultural productivity while overcoming adoption barriers. This includes a road map to effective soil health advisory services in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As G4AW concludes, this work contributes to a legacy for soil health initiatives across Africa, ensuring actionable insights for sustainable food production.
